My daughter really wants to swim in college, but her times (at least, her most recent times as a Junior in HS) place her as an average D3 swimmer.

Does anyone know what it feels like to be a "just average" D3 swimmer at Kenyon? Will the coaches work with you? Are many students cut from the roster?

Swimming at Kenyon is very competitive, and they won't take just anyone... Kenyon's top times (see the link above) are rival to division 1 teams. If your daughters times are somewhat far below, she probably won't be part of the team. I know a few people at Kenyon who've been swimming their whole lives, but they just couldn't cut it.

At the swimming website there is a link to a recruit questionnaire. If your daughter fills it out, a coach will contact her, and that would probably be more helpful than me...

Swimming at Kenyon is legendary. Since 1983-84, the women's team has won 20 D3 National Championships. The men's team has won 26 National Championships in a row. Given this, it is probably best to contact the coach directly, as kc_lady suggests.

My D swims for Kenyon and says they've got a large frosh swim class coming in. New rec center will be open in fall - unbelievable facility! Look at DIII championship results on NCAA web site http://www.d3swimming.com/results/results.php?meetid=286 , and find a school that's probably below the top 5-10 schools. Most DIII programs have a few studs, and the rest are pretty regular swimmers. But not schools like Kenyon, Emory, Denison, Amherst & Williams.

ExOH: I think your suggestion to look further down the d3 list makes sense. My D's times, at least right now, are not close to the rest of the Kenyon's swimmers. Given how much my D loves to swim, I would hate to have her go someplace where she wouldn't make the team

For a variety of reasons, it is very possible that my D's times may drop signficantly over her Senior year in HS or during her Freshman year at college. At least right now, however, the coaches wouldn't be impressed.
