my common app. essay (as of right now) is 496 words while my "tell me more' supplement statement is 574 words. should i switch the two statements to meet yale's 500 word limit? does it even matter, since they'll read both essays anywaY?

I don’t think it matters - they’ll be reading both anyways.

Well, being you, I’d try to cut down to meet the limit. I guess the adcoms have read TONS of essays anyways, if they put a limit, it’s because they mean it: be brief and concise. Unless your 74 words are REALLY meaningful and important, I tell you, just cut it down.

555 words… then i realized the transition between the intro and 1st body paragraph isnt smooth… 574 words again ■■■

The admissions officer I talked to when I visited said that they weren’t going to completely throw out your application just because you’re 50 words over the supplement limit. However he also said that it makes a good impression to follow directions and keep it under 500 words…

My personal opinion – if both essays are the same quality then just switch them, it won’t make much of a difference unless one is significantly worse than the other or one is geared towards yale in particular.

554 words… yeah I think I’m going to switch the essays
