I was wondering whether I should switch from Molecular to General Biology, as General offers a larger breadth and you don’t have to take the Math 20 series. Also, can someone inform me on the differences between the 10 and 20 series? I read that it’s wiser to take the 20 series just in case you choose to switch into another major that requires the 20 series.
The MATH 20 series is just for science and engineering majors so is considered more difficult than the MATH 10 series. It’s hard to really compare the two since students usually only take one or the other. I usually recommend that students take the MATH 20 series unless you’re really bad at math (or you really hate math) and you’re completely confident that you would never want to major in something that requires the MATH 20 series.
It’s weird that Molecular Biology requires the 20 series. All of the other biology majors allow the 10 or 20 series, except for Bioinformatics. I don’t see anything in the Molecular Biology requirements that would require students to take the 20 series, but I didn’t look very hard. I don’t think you should switch majors based on the math requirement, but the biology majors (except for bioinformatics) are so similar that it doesn’t really matter which one you major in.
Are you premed?
@baktrax That’s exactly what I was thinking! And I am a very dedicated math student so hopefully it shouldn’t be a problem
@DrGoogle Yes!
