Switching Majors/Colleges

How hard is it to switch majors or colleges at UC Berkeley, Northwestern, and Cornell?

I think I want to be a mechanical or biomedical engineer, but I really don't know for sure. I want to go to a really good school like the three I mentioned, and I believe I have a good chance at getting into the College of Arts and Sciences but not the College of Engineering at each one. If I apply as an Undeclared major in the college of arts and sciences, how easy is it to eventually become an engineering major?

Each school should be able to tell you that more accurately than we can, red panda. Check their college catalogues, where these kinds of policies and regulations are usually spelled out.

At Berkeley, not easy at all.

No free lunch. If engineering is the more difficult division to gain frosh admission to, you should expect it to be difficult to switch into later.

For Berkeley, read [Change of College (into COE) ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](Change of college - Berkeley Engineering) to see how difficult it can be to switch into later.
