I'm in the 3-2 engineering program between Fordham and Columbia. Thing is, I don't think I want to spend the rest of my life as an engineer. Math and Science don't come naturally to me like other subjects do (more writing intensive topics) and I realized that I just forced this 3-2 engineering program on myself because I thought I HAD to get into an ivy league and that being an engineer was the most respectable career path I could take.

I now realize that if I forced myself along this path, I would feel out of place and miserable for the rest of my career life. I want to switch majors now so I don't become a slave to computer science. But I need to know what Fordham is most known for in terms of major. While I want to pick something that I love, I also want to choose a major that Fordham specializes in. Thanks for any input.

One thing to note: Columbia engineering does not really produce “engineers”. They produce people who usually wind up in finance or business. MIT / Harvard, or other schools like that, are the ones who produce true engineers.

However, if you don’t love computer science, I urge you to switch majors. Nothing worse than forcing yourself into a place you don’t belong.

And don’t feel bad if the 3-2 made you feel out of place. It’s the hardest major Fordham offers, hands down. Columbia does not just let anyone get in to their engineering school, and engineering in general is an extremely demanding major.

Fordham has an excellent business school - perhaps you may consider switching to Gabelli.

I personally switched from Gabelli to the 3-2 program, and the process wasn’t too hard at all. Though there is a GPA requirement…I believe it was 3.0? Not too positive, but it may be a problem for you since the 3-2 program tends to decimate GPA’s.

I also think Fordham law is pretty respectable, you may want to look into that.
