Switching out of honors course after UC app submitted

I submitted my UC & CSU apps about a month ago and indicated on my course list that I was planning on taking honors calculus. Since I submitted the app, though, I realized that I would rather not take on the extra work and instead take another class or two at my local community college.

At my high school you can't choose which classes you take - you can only choose honors or no honors (honors only offered 11th and 12th grade). I took all honors except one class last year and took the one honors class offered first semester and got straight-A's. I'm wondering how changing out of honors would affect my admission decision to the schools I applied to (Berkeley, Davis, SB and SLO). Do I even need to contact the schools to make the switch?

You need to send it in asap or else you might be deferred. As how it will affect your admissions, the difficulty of the senior schedule seems to be a pretty regarded factor of admission. It may or may not hurt your chances as most UC campuses evaluate based on holistic review.

Would I recommend what you are doing? No, not one bit. But if you do plan on doing so, you HAVE TO contact your schools or else most will rescind their offers. Happened to a friend of mind and it completely screwed her over. Maybe it was because she dropped but maybe it was because she didn’t contact them.
