Switching your decision mid summer

Can you switch your decision and enroll somewhere else mid summer before your freshman year of college?

Normally when you have sent in your deposit and committed to one universities, the others find out and give your spot away to someone on the waitlist. There have been a few posts on CC from students who then changed their minds. In many cases after some discussion the student decided that the place where they had accepted was really the best fit anyway.

If you are really sure that you want to change your mind, you can call the place where you want to go and see whether your offer is still good. What they will tell you, I have no idea.

It is relatively common for people to have second thoughts after major decisions. This is pretty normal human nature. If you post where you have accepted, where you would prefer to go, and why, you might get some useful feedback.

Lots of people do change mid summer. Some get off a waitlist. Some drop an expensive option for a local community college to save money. Some follow DadTwoGirls’ suggestion above.

Yes, you can. You will lose your deposit. It is unlikely at this stage that a college you were accpeted at will still have a place for you, but that does very much depend on the college, so it might be worth asking. You can get off a waitlist, or enroll in a college with rolling admisions, or apply to a college on the NACAC list of colleges with openings, or decide you would rather go to CC. And if you really aren’t happy with your choices, you can tell the college you are withdrawing, and apply to colleges next year. You will not get your deposit back though.
