Hello, I am a senior in high school and I already put in a deposit at a college (A) but now I’m starting to change my mind. What should I do? I’ve been accepted to the other school (B) I’m thinking about, and I think I would be happier at School B. Am I allowed to switch and go to School B even though I’ve already put in a deposit at School A?
Yes, you can withdraw from College A, but will likely lose your deposit. Then you are free to accept College B’s offer of admission and put down a deposit.
What you can not do is accept offers of admission and have simultaneous deposits at two different schools.
If relevant, make sure College B’s financial aid package is adequate.
Work thru the details with your HS GC and parents.
Good luck.
As long as that first acceptance was not the result of your having applied Early Decision, you can easily change your admission decision by accepting a new one and withdrawing the prior one. Depending on the particular college’s policies, you may or may not be able to get back deposits you have made (such as for housing) from the first college.
