SXSW Questions...

Hey guys, i'm 75% sure I am attending UT next year and I definitely want to check out SXSW over the break. I have a couple friends that are 17 years old who would be coming with me. Would we have trouble getting into a lot of venues? I am 18 myself..would it be better to only go with people who are over 18? Not sure how it works..

shouldn’t be too big of a problem. From my experiences, there’s only a few shows that you can’t go to, not bad. Definitely go check it out, it’s tons of fun!

Yes, you will have major problems. The only venue I can think of that is NOT 21+ during SXSW are the shows at Auditorium Shores that are free and do not require an RSVP (and are all ages). All of the venues are 21+ because 90%+ give away free alcohol that is paid for by the sponsors (good sh!!t, too).

Most concerts need a badge (around $800 and first priority) or a wristband (around $200 and second priority) but there are also a lot of “parties” that have cool artists and free booze that anyone can RSVP to. It’s awesome…IF you are 21+ :)

If you are from Austin and in college most people only go to “free” events because they are fun and, well, free. Most people with badges are from out-of-town, at SXSW for work, or a celebrity. So many celebrities will be in town.

^ what phl777 said. SXSW is one of the rare times the Austin music scene doesn’t support much in the way of “all ages” concerts.

Y’all should consider saving up and doing ACL together–it is so much fun! [ACL Music Festival ~ Oct. 12-14, 2012 ~ Zilker Park, Austin, Texas](http://www.aclfestival.com/)

You might also want to consider volunteering for SXSW. I’m doing it this year and you get a badge as a perk, which opens up pretty much the entire festival to you. ACL is a must!!
