Hey guys, I'm pretty sure that i'm applying for China. Are there any other SYAers on here? also people from years past, how difficult is it to gain admission?

Re: gaining admission, last time I checked, around two out of every three applicants got in overall, but it really depends on the program. For Europe it’s harder, especially since they have language requirements going in, but for Italy, and China especially, it’s a lot easier. I think it also depends on what school you go to.

Despite the fact that it’s supposedly “easier” to get into China, however, it should be noted that it’s a self-segregating applicant pool. Most of the kids who go, with some exceptions, are really dedicated to studying the language and learning more about the culture. An astonishing number of China alumni end up living in China when they’re older (as opposed to a lot of SYA Europe). You’ll often see alumni walking through the hallway at school just because they happened to be in the neighborhood.
