Oh, I don’t know anything about Syracuse. We are from a Title I school, don’t have a GC who can guide us through this process, and don’t know any Syracuse alumni at all. I’m here at CC to try to learn. I was agreeing with the idea that Syracuse is a school that is in high demand–if they thought that their admissions procedures were having a negative effect on their prospects, then they would change them. My kid didn’t realize that this was how Syracuse did things and is figuring things out on the fly.
It’s not impacting their application numbers but I’d bet that most high school students have no idea this is how they release decisions. It’s not typical and it is upsetting. Being prepared for it helps, but finding out this is how it’s always been done is the kind research my kids didn’t have time for.
I don’t think the popularity of a school should be a factor how they treat people.
Exactly. It’s okay if someone vents or is frustrated. It’s also ok if a student wants to email and ask - voice their questions. If the school holds it against them, it reflects on the school not the student. It’s a long and sometimes frustrating process, and everyone gets to handle it as it works for them… not everyone (me included) reads past years threads or knows all the ins and outs of the admissions decisions for a school. Hoping it works out for those students where this is their first choice.
“ Thank you for your message. I am responding on behalf of the Chancellor. I understand that the college process, especially for students applying for 2022, has been long and difficult for many. I wish it were not this way. We will take your feedback into account when planning our decision release process in the future. We strive to release decisions as soon as possible, but the reality is that shaping a class from 41,000 applications takes time. I will try to confirm when you can expect to receive a decision - it will not be before tomorrow evening.”
Happy that his office responded. I figured that it would. I’ve written to him a few times over the last three years on different issues impacting the University and always received some form of acknowledgment. That said, Cuse can implement whatever method of applicant review they want or take whatever time they need, the gripe most folks have is to release decisions at the same time. If their email client can’t support sending out 500+ emails at one time, then it’s time to shop for a new platform.
My son was admitted and I’m wondering if Merit Scholarships are only sent out with the offer letter!? I think someone said that they may be sent two weeks after the acceptance letter. Does anyone know for sure? Thank you.
Congrats! It usually shows up with the offer letter, but if you check your student’s MySlice page, the financial aid awards will also list merit scholarships as well.
