I'm currently finishing my application for the Fall 2014 regular admissions, which closes about a week from today, and will most likely have it done by Wednesday. I was wondering if I have a decent shot at getting accepted into the LC Smith college of engineering and comp sci, given my current academic standings:

-Transfering as first semester sophomore from my local community college
-36 credits
-3.56 GPA
-A few college extracurriculars (honor society, NSLS, and a summer bridge program in which I earned third place for a project)
-Have taken classes such as precal/trig & intro to C++ (id assume they would look at these courses because of my major).

In all honesty, I think that my chances of admission rely heavily on my writing supplements and common app essay considering my current academic performance. I feel like they're better than average, but given the time of my application, what are my realistic chances of actually being accepted into the university? Is anyone else currently applying/has applied fairly late and received notification of the college's decision? Any insight would be helpful.

When transferring it is best to take courses that look “identical” to the program outline. It makes you more competitive and it will allow you to graduate faster/on time.

I personally think that is going to be the thing that ultimately destroy your chances for Syracuse. (well assuming you haven’t finished any calc courses) I know somebody who attempted a transfer from a CC and didn’t take any calc classes and received a rejection notice. I think you should seriously wait until you finished atleast Calc 2.

I managed to accepted into SU’s LC Smith comp sci program about a month ago with my stats as they were! Unfortunately, on-campus housing was at maximum capacity and my only option was to live off-campus, which wasn’t so appealing. So I’ve decided to transfer during the upcoming spring term and admissions told me that theyre opening housing specifically for transfer students next semester on a first come first serve basis. Hopefully I can manage to get a spot on campus!

@BoredEngineer They basically covered my tuition and id have to pay for the rest. Housing, meal plan, and other fee’s which are about 6-8k/semester. Not sure if its really worth it though. Any thoughts?
