Syracuse Full Ride vs. UCLA

My friend's sister got a full ride to Syracuse and was accepted to UCLA. She's going to visit next month but she would like some feedback to the pros and cons of each..

She's a theatre design major and money isn't a big issue for her family so it's not like she's going to graduate with debt either way, but..a full ride is a full ride. And she is a thetre major so might not make a lot of money? (correct or incorrect assumption?) I think her parents are really happy she got into UCLA but never heard of Syracuse so I don't think they mind paying.
I think she doesn't care where she ends up working (NYC vs. LA) because after working a few years she is likely to go back to Korea, so international prestige is a factor.

A working list...

Syracuse Pros:
-FREE (& money for textbooks etc)
-Tepper Center (study theatre in NYC for a semester, help with job placement in NYC etc)
-Less students = more individual attention
-Academically easier?
-Mountains, Lakes nearby
Syracuse Cons:
-Not much to do around the city
-Less prestigious

UCLA Pros:
-Prestigious
-Vibrant surrounding area, nice part of LA
-More Study Abroad options
Cons
-$100,000+ more expensive than Syracuse
-Focus more on theory than practical stuff?

Anyone know how good the job placement is for thetre majors for each schools?
Like for..Syracuse vs NYU (nut i think NYU doesn't have undergraduate thetre design so less competition?) UCLA vs. USC.

Also anyone been to both campuses? she's been to UCLA and she likes it. Campus look, vibe is important to her. She loves Notre Dame's campus. Also is the surrounding area of Syracuse safe? UCLA is in a nice part of LA so even though it's LA it seems pretty safe.

Also, how is the commute from SU to NYC? I'm pretty sure she wants to be able to see plays and stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, UCLA for undergrad isn’t THAT much better than Syracuse. Certainly not “$100,000+ more”. However, if you are talking about prestige in Asia, UCLA is much more well known in Asia.

I was accepted to UCLA and my dad doesn’t think it would be a good idea to attend because of California’s poor economy right now.

Definitely Syracuse! They’re close enough in prestige that the money factor definitely tilts it in Syracuse’s favor.

Wait…the idea that Syracuse is close to NYC is a joke. It’s 4-5 hours from Syracuse to midtown. Definitely not a college to attend if you’re interested in seeing plays on the weekend.

A few more tidbits, to be fair: UCLA is ranked #24 in the country, while Syracuse is #58. UCLA has a beautiful campus in the entertainment capital of the US. It it gets more applications than any other college in the country.

Definately Syracuse, especially if graduate school is plan for the near future.

Which campus gets better weather?

Duh, UCLA!

"Which campus gets better weather? "

Really?

I think right now she’s leaning slightly towards Syracuse. But if USC accepts her, she’s probably headed there (her first choice).

Thanks for the fast replies :)

I hope she visits before she decides. The weather question was, of course, a rhetorical question–I’ve been to both places.

I suspect there will be more opportunity for her to find co-op, internship, part-time, and summer jobs in her field in the immediate LA area than the immediate Syracuse area. Given that she’s chosen a skills-based major, the key factor in getting a job after graduation is going to be experience gained while an undergrad.
