Well, here is the thing. I live in Virginia, and I really want to study Chinese/ asian cultures/ tibetan. I have narrowed my options down to three schools and I want to get some different perspectives on the schools. Which would provide me with a great college experience, and a great education? I also want a great party scene. Thanks for your comments!

Well, I did a little study since your last post and here’s what I found out.

Indiana has a group called RIFIAS–the Research Institute on Inner Asian studies, which is mostly dedicated to a study of all the languages and cultures in Tibet and the areas immediately around Tibet.

[Inner Asia and Inner Asian Studies](http://www.indiana.edu/~rifias/RIFIAS_and_Inner_Asian_Studies.htm)

Toronto has a thing called the DEEDS project, which has run a Central and Asian studies seminar at the school once each year:

[Central and Inner Asia Studies (CIAS)](http://www.utoronto.ca/cias/)

Syracuse offers only four courses on the Chinese language and no cultural courses on it (unless you go for overseas study).

Personally, I’d choose Indiana, but as you can see, Indiana and Toronto are both much preferable to Syracuse for your major.

Good luck with your choice.

P.S. My son is a junior at Indiana–but in the business school. He says there are parties, but he doesn’t consider it to be as much of a “party school” as the ratings would have you believe. He said it was two years ago when he first started there, but it has toned down a lbit since, mostly because the student body GPA and SATs have been going up–and because the administration has tried to keep the parties at the frats or off-campus and out of the dorms lately.

If it helps I chose IU over Syracuse :). I was sold when I went for a visit because of the stunning campus and great feel of Bloomington’s atmosphere.

Thanks alot Calcruzer for your research efforts. Appreciate your time!
