So looks like the wave stopped for tonight. Congrats to all received email. For us, more wait.
DS admitted into 2nd choice. His first choice was Whitman School of Management. No merit.
SU indicated they would release in waves; we were there a few weeks ago and the admissions folks indicated that RD decisions would come out in waves starting in mid March. I doubt they are done. Acceptances have been trickling out over the last few weeks already so I would not take stock in comments that “this is it”. My daughter was admitted tonight (Whitman); the email came at 6:50pm. She was very excited. She is a straight A student (4.2 UW); 1300 SAT, tons of EC’s, varsity sports. We live in the southeastern USA. She’s been admitted into 4 schools already; all big public universities (Big 10 schools). We didn’t apply for any financial aid (and we won’t qualify for any) and SU didn’t mention any in her acceptance. She has been offered some modest merit scholarships at the public universities. She has yet to hear from 6 more schools (with by April 1 deadlines). She will wait until all her notifications come in before she makes her final choice. She had all her applications in by 1 November. I think the rolling admission process is much better (the Big 10’s mostly do this). That being said the advent of the ED, EDII process and the rush to “get your spot” doesn’t help. The tuition is high at SU but its not much different that Wake Forest, BU, Fordham, Villanova and others. At one school they even told us that if you application ED depended on financial aid you may want to take the RD process. This whole process has gotten so much more competitive over the past 20+ years. We push the kids so hard; if we had the grades/stats and activities our kids have 20+ years ago we would have all been admitted into Ivies. Congratulations to all that have been admitted so far. For those who have not heard; keep the faith. It will all work out in the end.
Just read this response on Syracuse’s FB page -
We have just begun to notify the majority of regular decision applicants. We’ll continue to notify over the next few weeks. Applicants can check the app checklist on MySlice to be sure the app is complete.
On SU twitter 2 hours ago: We have just begun to notify the majority of RD applicants. We’ll continue to notify over the next few weeks. Check your app checklist on MySlice to be sure your app is complete.
People who received merit, what are your stats?
Any chance the decisions are done alphabetically in waves based on last name?
For those that are speculating, my D got accepted to her 1st choice today but no honors and no merit. She applied RD. We are OoS. And last name is at the end of the alphabet!
Is the merit award included in the email?
Merit awards are included in the acceptance letter and any further financial needs based awards are in the My Financial Aid page. You can see your full cost analysis on the My Financial Aid tabs.
Note based on last 2 years experience the emails today were all acceptance notices to the majority of the RD pool - but not all. Next week will start rejections but some waitlist and continued smaller number of acceptances. Its fair to say that if you did not get a email acceptance today then the probability between now and April 1st is small but not zero.
@ktm1300 I so appreciate your positive thinking. Y do u think there r more acceptances to come. I know Cc is a small sample of applicants but everyone that posted got in.
My D was accepted to Newhouse but no merit. 4.03 GPA, 33 ACT. Does Newhouse give out a lot of merit?
did anyone get rejected yet? i still haven’t heard back let me know please!
DD accepted
S accepted today. No merit, which was a little surprising.
@waitin9272 1400 SAT, 3.7 uwGPA, 4.2 wGPA
Hey guys, current sophomore at Syracuse here. FWIW, I was accepted in the second wave of decisions(which was March 25th my year) with a 20k/year scholarship. So for those who haven’t heard yet, you definitely still have a chance. I know the wait is horrible, but just hang in there. Good luck!
@Prospective20 thanks for the glimmer of hope. Do you know others who were accepted after the first round?
