Talked with a very nice lady at the financial aid office and finally got everything submitted. whew Don’t despair if you haven’t heard yet. I know it’s so frustrating and difficult to wait, but things will work out I promise!

I was accepted as an English major, but also got into the Discovery Program for Florence. Whenever I click on the financial aid section of myslice, it says something along the lines of “2020, no financial aid” but my admissions letter included a $10,000 scholarship. Will the financial aid come in the mail, or is it just showing that because I won’t physically be attending Syracuse until spring 2020?

@hofomatic check your to-do list under financial aid and make sure everything was submitted. If so, your award should be posted shortly, if not submit those documents asap

In the two weeks last year before my daughter got her waitlist email, I scoured several years worth of posts. Last year the waitlist emails came out on Thursday because Friday was a Good Friday, but other than that, it is always a Friday after the admissions office staff are gone for the weekend. My daughter did get in and is attending so I have spoken to many people since. The admission process at Syracuse has got to be the most heartless, awful processes of any school I have ever encountered. I think they offer a few (very few) offers after week 1 just to keep everyone on this page hopeful. In general, the popular programs fill up from the original acceptances and not many are taken from the waitlist. Similarly kids who are offered admission to other schools within Syracuse and attend with the hopes of transferring into those programs will not have an easy time.

I don’t doubt your personal experience with this, and I’m glad your daughter made it in off the wait list. And I agree that the process at Syracuse (and at many other schools) is frustrating and doesn’t make applicants kept endlessly waiting feel very positive about the school. But there is no rational reason to send acceptances first and waitlist and denials later if all the decisions are already made. My best guess is that the definite yeses and the clear nos have probably all been notified already, and they are left with people who are borderline. So when those decisions are made, there will be a lot of waitlists and rejections along with some acceptances. Of course, I don’t know for sure.

I’d also say that if you are not admitted to your selected major, at Syracuse or elsewhere - go somewhere that will let you study what you want to study. That’s more important than the school itself, and in many cases transferring into a competitive program will be difficult or impossible.

We know this group is not fully representation of the full population, so in order to try and disprove my experience -
If anyone knows of anyone that received a rejection on Match 15th, can you please post. You don’t even have to acknowledge if it was you - we are just trying to get proof if any rejections were sent out last Friday.

As well, if anyone has received an email with any status after March 15th on a non Friday, can you please post. Admissions tells people they send them out at any time, but I have yet to see a post that was not on the mass day.

Note- Prior to March 15th, they do sent acceptances to people that receive the major scholarships. This is to determine Syracuse admission behavior from March 15th onward.

On the other Cuse thread someone posted yesterday they had a friend rejected last Friday.

Is it bad I haven’t heard anything yet? Starting to get worried…

I haven’t either. But yes, my friend got rejected last Friday

I’ve talked to my friends in school who have applied, and all of us haven’t received word yet.

Life is good:)

Has anyone accepted on Friday 3/15 recieved their acceptance letter in the mail yet?

Congrats to everyone who was accepted. Good luck to those who have not heard.

@SUmom2023 - acceptance came on Friday - SA program

@EBB_2019 congratulations to you and your son! Very exciting. You and all the other parents of the accepted students should join the SU Parents 2023 on Facebook!

@SUmom2023 thanks. Also any other good suggestions for FB groups for SU parents? Thanks!

I tried posting the link but it wouldn’t go through. The actual name of the FB page is SU Parents Class of 2023

I’m a little confused as to why admissions claims to release notifications during the week and they haven’t over the last two years. My son also asked the people he knew were applying and they either hadn’t heard or were accepted. No rejections. very strange…

I have a question. I have not yet received a decision but when I log into my myslice there is a section that says “Admission Acceptance Form” and I also have a financial aid section with the blue line along with a checklist. Do you think this is a good sign? Or does everyone see this on their portal?

@collegemt123 Everyone has that before a decision is made. The Financial Aid tab is not accessible unless admitted in which you would be able to view the aid offer letter. The other tab regarding ‘admission acceptance form’ should not work unless one is admitted.

So I didn’t receive a decision last Friday and I still can’t access the admission acceptance form, but when I click on the financial aid tab it shows it for 2020 and says that “I have no financial rewards at this time”. Does that mean anything? Forgive me if this has been pointed out before/answered already.
