Not international, I am in-state.
Uncle went there.
We are excited, my daughter received her acceptance yesterday with the Whittman scholarship for $28,000. She received 3 emails, one from admissions with acceptance, one from about being chosen for a Whitman Leader Scholar and Merit scholarship and the last was from the Assistant Dean for Whitman School. She also got a phone call from the Assistant Dean welcoming her. SU is now top on her list, still waiting on other schools.
34 ACT
4.1 GPA weighted
Wow! Congrats to your D, @longislandivymother1!
I just want to mention for those who are reading this later, each individual college within the school handles things differently with regards to admissions and merit awards, phone calls, etc. There are also University merit awards and individual college merit awards. So your mileage may vary.
So do you think there is a chance my daughter can receive a merit scholarship through the University in addition to the merit award from Whitman??? I hope, SU tuition is big.
I applied RD and have not heard anything yet, however, Financial Aid needed a few things from me in order to put a Financial Aid package together, Do you think that means it will be an acceptance? I dont know why they would need all this info otherwis. Please advise. TIA
hang in there they will be out at the middle of March.
Accepted RD with 28K Maxwell leadership award!
history major
1430 super score SAT
4.24 W 3.85 UNW
from IL very competitive school
good essay
EC wasn’t that great

I transferred from Korea my sophomore year (but I am US citizen)
I applied RD to Whitman, in-state with a 3.4 GPA but a 1460 SAT. 6 AP Classes, with 3 taken in previous years (Got a 4 on all of them). Good EC’s, Good Essays, etc. Do you think someone with my SAT score but a bit low of a GPA would be eligible for any merit aid, even a little bit, based off what has been given to students with similar scores in previous years?
Most merit that I’ve seen comes in the admission letters. I’m guessing if you got the Whitman Leadership Scholarship, that will be all the merit (though that is just based on history from these boards and my own family’s experiences). I’ve never before heard of someone getting a phone call, though.
The phone call was just a congratulatory call and then they offered me a free sweatshirt from the Whitman school
My point was that each college within the university does things differently, so someone accepted into, say, the School of Education, may not get a phone call — but they shouldn’t read anything into that, I.e., they are not valued as much etc.
I applied RD to Newhouse and still haven’t heard anything but I have a tab on my portal that says Admission Acceptance Form but when I click it it says this page is currently unavailable for your use… does this mean anything?
@sleepysloths Just means you aren’t accepted YET. Admissions will continue to roll out through March.
@Amkngk From your experience…If someone who had been offer merit $ declines their spot, Does admissions award that money/scholarship to another student who has either already been accepted or is about to be accepted? Thanks!
if you apply to newhouse, is it possible to not be accepted to newhouse but still be accepted to syracuse?
i think you can still get into the second choice school/major you chose when you applied
My son was accepted Friday 2/22 with the Engineering and Computer Science Leadership Scholar Award as part of admission letter.
Computer Science Major
1540 SAT
SAT Subject tests 760 Math 2 790

Upward trend this year with 3 Ap, 1 college level and honors classes so GPA is higher at midyear

Robotics Software team captain, 3 of 4 years
Accepted

if you apply to newhouse but dont get in, can you still get admitted to arts and sciences?
@sfruhling My guess is yes. I know there was an option to select from on the Common Application. A lot of colleges provide for this alternative choice because they don’t want to lose the ‘business’.
