Syracuse vs. Hofstra

I've been accepted to both, and Syracuse is my dream school. But Hofstra gave me $30,000, while Syracuse, namely the Newhouse School (very prestigious) only awarded me $10,000. I am leaning towards majoring in Public Relations. Should I save money or splurge? Is Syracuse worth it? Does Hofstra's proximity to NYC make it a better school for my major?

junebug: where do you live now? Newhouse connections in NYC are amazing; the name really opens doors; while Hofstra is decent, doesn’t have the alumni connections that Newhouse does…

have you visited both schools?

If this is totally a financial issue, obviously Hofstra is the prudent choice…but if SU is your dream school, and you were accepted to Newhouse…may be the better choice…

I live in New Jersey, relatively close to Hofstra. I have visited both schools, and really fell in love with Syracuse. The environment at Hofstra just seemed like somewhere I would, frankly, just not be happy. The only drawback is that with Hofstra I could intern in the city throughout the school year, whereas I’m not too sure about upstate New York’s PR opportunities…
Yes this is a financial dillema, but I’m just curious as to whether Syracuse would be worth the impending debt in the end versus Hofstra

I know the time is at hand to make a decision, but if you have time to go back and visit one or both of the schools, that might help you make up your mind.

Good luck.

Syracuse! Hofstra cannot even compete with newhouse, go with newhouse. In terms of internships and job connections, the newhouse name will be worth it in the long run.

There is no comparison between Syracuse and Hofstra. Hofstra isn’t even in the same league as Syracuse. Go to Syracuse. You won’t regret it.

junebug, I am in the same boat as you.

I was accepted to Seton Hall University in NJ and Syracuse which is my dream school. SU gave me a pretty good financial aid package but with Seton Hall’s package, I’d be in less debt. Though I’d be in less debt with Seton Hall, I decided to attend Syracuse. SU is my dream school and I know that the opportunities provided at and after SU really can’t be found anywhere else. I’ll probably be in a substantial amount of debt after college but the education I’ll receive and the opportunities after college will be worth it.

I hope that helped you and I hope to see you in August. :)

Hey Junebug did u make up ur mind yet? I also got accepted into Hoftstra and Syracuse. Syracuse is my dream school so was Hoftstra during my junior year. Hofstra gave me too little aid while I’ll have to pay $7000 a year for Syracuse. Since I know Syracuse has connections in my city I decide to go to Syracuse
