I have been accepted to all 3, Syracuse, UMass and Siena (Siena's a smaller school so you might not have heard of it, its near Albany, NY). I was wondering if anyone had any imput on the schools in comparison to each other. I have been accepted for Biology (but im thinking of possibly changing to Political Science...I know their polar opposites) Syracuse would be the most expensive for me at about 33,000 and UMass at about 29,000 and Siena at 27,000. Anyone have any ideas??

I don’t know anything about Siena, I also have been accepted to Syracuse and U Mass and I am trying to make a decision. Syracuse overall is ranked 58 U Mass 106, but you need to see the rank of the departments for each of these schools. Syracuse is more urban. Some people have told me that Syracuse is more highly regarded, but I still haven’t made up my mind. Hope this helps.

My best friend’s S just commited to 'Cuse, I have 2 clients who just graduated from 'Cuse… all have nothing but the best to say about it. Academics, athletics & aesthetically ~ it has it all. Lots of snow though.

BUT…

My S and I just went to accepted students day at UMass Amherst and I was really impressed. I think we take it for granted because we live in MA but UMass has a lot to offer. Initially it was his safety and also our financial safety. It went from one of his least favorites because of its size to being a potential front runner within an hour of being there. (honestly I was shocked) All of the same perks as 'Cuse, great academics (avg gpa 3.6) D1 athletics, tons of clubs and intermurals. UMass is constantly building and really has become more and more selective. Amherst is an amazing college town. Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke, Smith are all within a 15 minute drive. You also get the bonus of our crazy New England weather! Close to the beach in the summer (1.5-2hrs away); Boston (1.5hrs away); skiing/snowboarding in NH or VT.

As for Siena, don’t know too much about it except they put a lot of $ into their snail mail marketing. Just ask my mailbox. For the extra $$ I think Syracuse or UMass would position you better upon graduation.

Thanks everyone for your input! Syracuse is deffinitley my top choice, i loved the school when i went for a visit but UMass is deffinitley my second. I think they both provide alot for their students which makes it so hard to choose. Then there’s also Siena, which would allow me to have the least amount of debt upon graduation. Is Syracuse deffinitley worth the extra 24,000 over 4 years?
