What entry level jobs could I get with a B.S. in Systems Engineering? (maybe systems analyst, data analyst, business analyst?) Anyone that has a B.S. degree in systems engineering what is your current job?

Are we talking IT or are we talking engineering?

At work we have scores of systems engineers, who are usually EE’s who collect requirements, write test plans, build and run benches, instrumentation hardware, do field testing, system integration (the most important part of the job) and so on.

If we’re talking systems like IT systems, careers depend on what kind of knowledge you have collected in college.

In the engineering field… what would be entry level jobs for undergraduates with a B.S. in Systems Engineering?

If your schooling included a decent dosage of EE then any company that integrates hardware and software could be it. This includes a lot of defense and aerospace type jobs. The buzzword there is integration.

If your schooling was more math based (closer to IE) that is a different and more diverse path.

A friend is a systems engineer for a defense contractor. Lots of travel and writing and talking to people who use the stuff.

An actual systems engineering degree will limit your options for the type of work (much of it is high-level type stuff) you can do after graduation. Systems engineering, as it relates to the occupation, is one of those things that all traditional engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, aero, etc) qualify for. In fact the vast majority of systems engineers have degrees in pure engineering disciplines. Furthermore, it doesn’t work both ways. Systems engineers generally don’t qualify for pure engineering jobs since they don’t receive the curriculm depth in any particular field (i.e. jack of all trades, master of none).

That being said, you could qualify for any systems engineering positions (of which there are plenty out there), most analyst positions (with the exception of those in any specialty areas - i.e. structural analyst), project management positions, strategic or planning positions, CAD/drafting positions, and perhaps a few others.
