As a college student, do you think tablets/ iPads are useful? How often do you use it? Do you prefer a tablet or an iPad... and if tablet, what is your favorite tablet model/brand?

An iPad is a tablet dude. Anyways, they can be useful, and the degree of usefulness depends on the person using it.

for clarification, the tablet pc created by Apple Inc. is christened iPad. so technically the iPad is a tablet pc too. anyway i suggest you better buy a laptop or even netbook. those are definitely having more specs and offer better value for your bucks. but if you are that much into tablets than definitely go for an Apple iPad 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab. both are equally nice.

Tablets are not very useful in college.

I find that there’s no point to having a tablet since I have my laptop with me nearly all the time anyways.

Yes and no. I would take a laptop over a tablet any day. A friend of mine would post his noted on an iPad. Made it very easy to study while walking to and from class, waiting, etc. It was convenient, but not worth the $500+ you’re going to spend on it…or however much they cost…

I live by my ipad. I have an ipad, iphone and laptop and I coordinate all of my notes and school stuff through them. There are a lot of applications that one can use to sync schedules, assignments, documents, whatever through these devices so having an ipad is just like having a laptop. There are even apps that allow you to link to your laptop even if it is back in your dorm and you are in class. My laptop is a bit on the heavy side. So it is really a pain to have to carry it to class everyday, walking across campus with snow and only a short time for passing. An ipad is much lighter and I can pretty much do the same stuff. It’s also really easy to study on, if you take pictures of all your notes and string them together as a pdf and then read it like you would be reading an ebook. Really saves all the paper and large books you have to lug around
The price may be an issue, so you should consider your options carefully. I received mine as a gift, but I probably would have bought it anyways even if I already owned a laptop.

The MacBook Air solves the weight issue, and has a real full-sized keyboard and all the connectivity of the iPad. I use iPad (e.g. now) ten times as much as Mac, but move to Mac for serious typing and cut/paste operations.
