hey. I’m registering for my classes rn at community college and want to transfer to uc davis for computer science. I saw online that you don’t have to complete all have the IGETC and also take major classes for comp sci. My counselor gave me PE as a class which I was frustrated about. If I’m trying to transfer in 2 years isn’t it a bad idea to take PE right now and should rather take the mandatory classes I need for transfer?
Also how do I know which classes to take and complete for comp sci? It’s so confusing to know which one to take and the counselors are no help
check Assist.org to see what classes you need to take in order to fulfill your major requirement.
find a different counselor. There is no need to take PE or any similar class.
At some schools the counselors unfortunately steer students into completing an AA degree, even though it is not required for UC xfer. Don’t know if that is happening here, but PE is about one of the last classes you should spend time taking.
See https://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/transfer/ and https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/transfer/major-requirements-college-letters-sciences#compsci
Additionally the UCs send counselors around to each CCC so you could find the next visit and talk to them, although with the coronavirus situation that may change
Once you have read thru all the prep material online you can ask further questions using the link at the bottom of the page https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer
Had the same thing happen to me. Counselor gave me a bunch of classes I didn’t need to take, because she thought I couldn’t handle all the stem classes at once. So I just stopped going to counselors and just did my own research. I also tagged to Davis for Aerospace Science and Engineering Fall 2020 and was accepted.
Yes drop the PE class, focus on your major requirements. You don’t need to complete igetc but you do need to complete the 7 course pattern(you can find more info here https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/transfer-requirements/preparing-to-transfer/basic-requirements.html).
2 transferable courses in English
1 transferable course in math
Four transferable courses from at least two of the following areas:Arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences
TAG for Davis does require you to complete all your major requirements done your last spring semester/quarter. You cannot finish major req’s the summer before you transfer. There is a minimum GPA you need to be eligible to apply, and maintain before you transfer.
