Hey! Anyone else applying for the Taiwan AID Summer Program this year?
The registration period for the 2018 A.I.D. Summer Program will be from January 20, 2018 to March 6, 2018. Online registration opens on January 12, 2018 and prospective volunteers can begin the process on that date by creating an account and uploading all required documents. Once all documents have been uploaded, applicants must assemble and mail in a physical application package to their nearest Chinese Culture Center. Culture Center offices will accept the physical application packages from January 20 to March 6, 2018.《Application packages must be received by the registration offices on or before March 6. 》
The program will be held from June 30 to July 28, 2018. There are 534 volunteer spots available this year including a Hakka group for 70 descendants of Hakka people. Volunteers will participate in training courses during the first week then teach English at one of various remote schools during the second and third weeks. The Hakka group will be specifically assigned to different schools located in Hakka culture-concentrated areas. A tour of various areas of Taiwan will be conducted during the last week.
This program will not play an essential role in your college admission process.
However, this is a beautiful experience; you should participate in it if and only if you are passionate about gaining this experience.
@kcasssuu of course! I’ve already been accepted to some great places (cough UCBerkeley)… and submitted my application to Taiwan AID before I even got the acceptance. :)>-
I just hope I can get in to the program because I love teaching kids (many years of experience in education) and I think it will be a great opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with my Taiwanese heritage (I’ve lived in Taiwan for 2 years).
Are you also an applicant or have you participated in it previously? Just wondering because you seem very KNOWLEDGEABLE about the subject. :-?
This thread is for applicants of Taiwan AID 2018 to meet - is my intention. But, thanks for your input!

I applied a few weeks ago, too! I’m super nervous because I’m not sure whether my stats are high enough >.< And they keep pushing the deadline and now are accepting 624 applicants instead of 525, so I’m wondering if lots of people are applying >.<
Oh, I meant to say 534 o.o Yeah! I am still nervous because that probably means there are also even more qualified applicants… About two more weeks til we find out whether we got accepted or not, though! I’m from Ohio — you?
Woah, I was pleasantly surprised to see this thread! I’m applying to it as well.
Also, was it really necessary to say that it won’t be significant in college admissions?..
It looks like a great program and I really hope I can get in
@musicmeister22 I’m from Texas! I’ve found it kind of weird that they’ve been extending the application so much. At first it was February 28, but it kept extending in small increments. Hopefully March 18 is the final deadline so that I’m not kept waiting for much longer lol
@jji2901@musicmeister22 Wow guys, about a week until we find out if we got in!! I’m really excited!
On another note, this thread was the reason why I created an account on here; I wanted to meet other people that also applied to this wonderful program ^
I’ve been lurking on this thread for ages, but I applied to the program this year too. Hope we all get in and maybe see each other there!
Does anyone know how they narrow down the applicants? A couple of my family friends got in two years ago, but I’m not sure how my credentials compare to theirs. I fit the general guidelines they have but I couldn’t find anything about how they picked specific people out of all the applicants.
@riririn YAY! I have no idea, personally… cuz I’m the first person of the people I know to apply for the program… but maybe the other people do? I just wanted to say HIIIII.
