Take a moment to chance me, not your typical CC person with super-high scores!

Well let me start off by giving you a profile.

Came to the US school system when I was 8 from Poland. I was born in the USA but lived there since I was about 1 years old to about 8 years old. 100% Polish and Catholic.

School Stats: Very small ultra competetive public high school where kids take numerous community college courses to get ahead and boost there rank. Rank is not weighted :frowning: and GPA is not as well.

Top 16% or about 20/122 Class of 144 but for some reason they only weighted 122 kids? I am a top male surrounced by about 18 ladies ahead of me. If I only had money to take a couple community college courses to raise my rank to about 10/122. Oh well.

High A- average unweighted. 10.507/12 unweighted 10= A- 11= High A 12= perfect

ACT: 26 the first time (very terrible) 28 Math 26 English 24 Reading 24 Science 10/12 essay with 27 english/essay combine

2nd time: 25 composite- 30 Math 25 English 26 Reading 20 SCIENCE!@@#$@$%$ THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF NOT FOR SCIENCE!@@#

Should I send both scores to colleges? I am hoping the essay score will be good. I am definitely not a test taker I guess.

EC’s: Band (clarinet)
Track and Field
Radio
Math Team
FBLA ( President senior year, junior year: Treasurer, sophomore year: Reporter)
Beta Club
National Honor Society
History Club- President
Altar Server at church since I was 8
1000+ community service hours to church ranging from helping out at mass to cleaning windows to weeding around the parish grounds.
This probably doesn’t count, but I mentioned it on my apps anyways. My parents work long hours and my mom works the night shift. So, when my mom comes home my dad often goes to work. My mom has to get some sleep so I often have to take care of my 9 year old sister.

Awards: High Honors all years of High School
Gettysburg College Book Award (excellence in American History)
Introduction To Business Award

Grades/courses: worked my way from the lower level courses such as Algebra 1. Huge Upward surge in grades.

Only took 2 AP’s due to limited number and schedule: AP Calc and AP History

AP exam for history: 2 (I was sick and had a high fever, won’t be reporting to colleges unless asked) A+ in the course though, very tough and huge papers almost every night. :(

Senior Year courses/ grades: BEST YEAR EVER!! Not even 1 A- yet
First quarter:
AP Calculus A+
Astronomy A+
Principles of Law A
Business Law 1 A
College Physics Honors A
Honors Spanish 4 A+
College English 12 A

Next half of the year:

AP Calc
World Between the Wars
Health
Honors Spanish 4
College Physics Honors
College English 12
Forgot something lol I think B-law 2

Anyways that is my profile, got some strengths and weaknesses. I did write some killer college essays though and I got recommendations from my Physics teachers who has a PHD, my old history teacher, my guidance counselor, and my pastor. All were great. My guidance counselor mentioned the high level of competetiveness as well as how I am a top male. I am seperated from 10 people by about .1 points. :frowning: If I had a 10.6 I would be about #10. Yeah it pretty much sucks and if I didn’t get a B in geometry for some quarters I would have a 10.6. Oh well.

Here are the schools that I have applied to:

University of Notre Dame

Amherst College

Bowdoin College (SAT/ACT Optional)

Wesleyan University

Tufts University

Boston College

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Boston University

College of Holy Cross (SAT/ACT Optional)

Providence College (SAT/ACT Optional)

University of Connecticut

Fairfield University

I got accepted to RPI, Providence, and Fairfield under EA already. Any hopes of getting into one of the reaches? I would give anything to get into 1 reach at least. :frowning: Anything think I will get into 1 reach? Forgot to mention that I am a first-generation college student. My dad did some programs at western new england college and got an associates but I don’t think that counts.

Well sorry for the long thread, but please chance me. Thanks!

i think adcoms may see through your hardships and major improvement in grades. you have a chance. go ahead and apply

yeah i definitely went crazy lol. 12 schools is a lot, but hey I rather have all reaches and like 1 saftey then just a bunch of easy schools. I got into those 3 already, so that is good. Hopefully the trend continues. I would love to get into some reaches. Hopefully they view me as not the typical applicant.

Forgot to mention my counselor rec mentions me taking Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra 2 all in 1 year back to back classes. It was rough. Go from one math class to the next. Some times i had like 3 hours of math in 1 day. :( Well it did work, I got ahead doing it and I am happy I did it.

anyone? Chance?

I definitely think you will get into College of the Holy Cross. If you are looking for money, I would say apply to Tulane.
have you been rejected early at any reaches?

Reaches are RD, so no. Just holy cross? I prefer RPI over holy cross. I was viewing holy cross as a definite hmm. Hopefully a reach one will work out. Crap. :(

bump.........

anyone....... :( ?

University of Notre Dame-eh slim chance

Boston College-i would say u have pretty much no chance, sry

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute-idk say like 60-70% u're in

University of Connecticut- depends on wether ure instate or out, in u're pretty much in with prob scholarships, out u're prob 80% in anyways, though idk how much money u'd get

I already said I was accepted to RPI. I even said I will obviously be accepted to UCONN as my location says CT. How about the others? Anyone else? All the obstacles that I have faced do not count in admissions? I am not a test taker but I have a lot of good things others don't. I hate how a test pretty much screws you over.

Is BC considered harder to get into than Notre Dame?

I don't believe so. Oh well I guess I have a 0% chance at these schools. Stupid tests. At least I got into RPI. I was hoping to get into a better school, but I guess I am out of luck.

I wouldn't rule out Notre Dame. Of all the colleges I have researched, that seems to be the one who truly looks at the whole person, not just the scores...

Notre Dame is my favoirte school and is the best fit for me, but it will be so hard for me to get in there. Hopefully someone there likes me. :(

anyone? anyone wanna help out?

I think that your Polish/Catholic immigrant status may be a hook at Notre Dame, but that's just my opinion...

heh, sweet thanks. That would rock if that was the case.

bump....... Can anyone offer an opinion besides the one I got already?

BC is easier than ND for a lot of reasons, if u look at their average sat score/act score, gpa and etc...But I dont no if Polish would be count as minority, so u are pretty much competing with regular applicants, and especially u are a US citizen. That make BC and ND much harder to u than a minority. BC pretty much is known for being a test *****, they look at tests a lot more. THis is not to say ND doesnt, but i think applicants accepted by ND generally have higher standarized test scores so...Well u never no, just have to wait. People on CC are just regular pp like me and u. They are not professional counselor, so they cant predict correctly. Even pros cant predict accurately.

Thanks for the help. Yeah being Polish doesn't count as a minority. I do believe that anyone who had to come into the US school system and struggle for many years should be regarded with appeal at least. I do have dual citizenship but that probably doesn't count for anything. I wish my test scores were higher.
