I'm a junior with a love for chemistry. First off, let me just say that I -want- to take organic chemistry over the summer. It has nothing to do with boosting my resume. Since the very short Orgo lesson in AP Chemistry (Which I have near-100% in, so that's not an issue either), I've been looking up and learning various materials that I know would be in an organic chemistry class.

Anyway, I was just wondering if it'd be a good idea to find a community college course in organic chemistry to occupy me over the summer. I'm also doing a biomedial research internship and bi-weekly training for Color Guard and Drumline (I'm a drum major), but that's really it.

Hope someone can help :] Sorry if I left something out...

If you can afford it and you know you’ll enjoy it, go for it!

I think I just encountered a problem, though…

While I am guaranteed a 5 (I’ve taken 2 practice tests with overall scores in the 90’s for both) for AP Chem…scores won’t be available until July. And General Chem is a prerequisite.

So now I’m just trying to see if it’s even possible…

You may find it difficult to coordinate the lecture/lab for orgo with your other summer activities. It may also be difficult to find a community college that offers summer Organic Chemistry, and even if you do, note that it would be Organic I–would you be able to take Organic II in the Fall or Spring? If not, there’s no point in taking Organic I; if so, you might as well just take Organic I and II Fall/Spring next year, after scores come back.

If you can work out the time, find a community college that offers it, etc., you and ask if they’ll accept CLEP credit in order to meet the prerequisite.

I think you should go for it. If you live in a semi-urban place then I don’t think you should have trouble finding somewhere that has Orgo going on through the year.

aigiqinf: Your idea is great! I will try to do that. I will probably do summer/fall if I can. If not, it’ll be summer/spring… But yeah. I forgot about the CLEP!

QwertyKey: Thanks :] I didn’t think so either!
