Taking 5 years to earn BS hurt grad admissions?

Hey everyone. Due to the structure or prerequisites at my school, I can either kind of shove some classes into the summer and graduate in the normal 4 years, or use this upcoming summer to pursue an internship and that would push me back to graduating in 5 years.

Graduating in 5 years would allow me to have an extra summer for another internship, and allow me to spend more time conducting undergraduate research, and other things that would allow me to prepare for graduate school.

On the other hand, part of me feels like it would be a waste of year and that I should just finish up the BS in 4 years.

Do graduate schools look down on students who take an extra year to graduate?

Sounds like you should take the extra year. I can't believe that anyone would view this negatively.

It won't matter.

I agree with both replies. I took 5.5 years for undergrad, 4 for my masters and it didn't hurt my PhD applications any. Take your time. ;)

That's great news. Thanks for the quick responses.
