hi all,

i think i'm probably going to take a year (or two) off after college, to do some volunteer activities (preferably abroad)--unfortunately, i've been trying to do some research on this and have gotten nowhere. i definitely DO NOT want to do the peace corps, but other than that, i'm pretty much up for anything. does anyone know of any organizations/volunteer programs that would be ideal for a post-bacc. (and hopefully up their chances of getting into med school) from personal experience or otherwise? hopefully this isn't too much to ask! thanks everyone. :3

It's not abroad, but there's Teach for America.

Try doing research.

Abroad during your application year is a (not insurmountable) difficulty, since you need to be available for interviews and immediate contact, especially late in the season.

hmm...i actually think i'm leaning more towards two years off, so one year abroad should be okay. actually, i'm willing to do anything that will up me on the community service quotient, since i didn't do much of it in college. do you think teach for america is good enough for top-tier schools? i don't want to sound like a gunner, but i would like to get a least a rough conception of how things stand. again, thanks. :)

TFA is great. But it's not easy.
