taking a year off

I'm currently a freshman at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I'm a pretty good student, but I absolutely hate it here. I have applied as a transfer student for the fall 2010 term, but I won't be hearing back from them until late May. This is an issue because I am required to vacate the dorms by May seventh. I'm concerned that I will not get into these schools, but I don't want to come back here. Not even for just one more semester. I can't do it. If I were to take a semester off next fall and work (or something), would it hurt my chances of applying for the spring term at a new institution?

Thanks.

No it won’t

It won’t? How do you know? I’ve asked my classmates here and they’ve all told me that It would make transferring infinitely harder.

Thanks so much

Many students have something happen in life that puts their college progress on hold. Gap years can also be a great learning experience. Colleges understand this and many top schools even have programs to assist students with their gap year.
