I’m currently taking AP Bio and I love it. I’m doing well in the class and I plan on majoring in something in bio in college. Some of the colleges I’m considering offer 3 year bachelors programs if you come in with enough college credits, and I would (if everything goes well) use that to move on to a master’s degree without leaving college. For one college, I would have to take one more AP class (and pass the exam) to be able to get my bachelor’s in 3 years. I’m a junior, and next year I was planning on taking AP Lit, Physics CM, and Pych. One of my options for the extra AP class is Enviro. Would I be really bored after liking AP Bio so much. I don’t find bio that challenging so i’m worried enviro would be super easy, especially after bio. I have other options but none of them are very appealing either.
AP calc - heck no. I don’t like math.
AP stats - idk, maybe? Could I like stats because I like science but not math?
AP Chem - Not at the same time as physics (I like physics but hate chem)
Several kids in my HS who were in AP Biology last year are currently enrolled in AP Environmental and the class seems to be fun for them, but more challenging than expected. My school piles on homework to offset the class being known as a “light” AP, which might explain that. You mentioned getting your bachelors’ early–have you ever considered dual enrollment? I am a senior and I’ve been in my school’s Dual Enrollment program since junior year and I will graduate with 53 college credits at the very least, assuming I don’t pass any of the AP exams I’m taking this year, which is extremely unlikely. I may also take a CLEP exam for Beginning Spanish I and II, which would get me enough credits to qualify for an AA, since I’ve taken four years of high-school Spanish.
Also, I’m pretty sure that you have to either be concurrently enrolled in or have past experience with Calculus in order to take Physics C (however, I’ve taken neither Calculus nor Physics C, so I may be mistaken). If you don’t like math, then I think it would be wise to drop Physics C altogether and take AP Environmental and AP Statistics. However, doing something related to bio in college would probably require experience with advanced math classes (at least up to Calculus II), so keep that in mind for later on.
I’m considering dual enrollment, but I’ll have to wait until we do scheduling to get info on it at my school. My school recommends being in AP Calc while taking AP Physics, but I don’t think they require it. I think if I just suck it up and take honors calc, maybe get a tutor if I struggle, physics will be ok. I currently have the teacher for AP physics for honors physics and she’s great I have no doubts she’d help me with the calc stuff I’d have to know for physics. So I’m thinking AP Physics, Honors Calc, AP Lit, AP Psych, and AP Enviro.
