I’m currently a sophomore and I’m taking chemistry. My goal school is Columbia (I know the chance that I will get in is very small, but I’m working and aiming with it in mind). Chemistry is not something I’m good at, and I don’t think it would be good for me to take AP Chem junior year because I’m not very good at it and am working to keep my A in it now, nor do I have any interest in it. My high school offers 3 AP science courses: Bio, Chem and Physics. My plan was to do AP Bio next year and either honors physics or honors anatomy and physiology senior year, considering to be in AP Physics, you must take honors physics junior year to go to AP senior year. I’m figuring it’d be better to do AP Bio junior year so I could have that I took the AP bio test in my app. So will it look bad in any way to do AP Bio junior year, and then go to honors physics or honors anatomy and physiology senior year?
Thanks
I heard that Anatomy and Physiology is generally an intensive class, regardless of being an AP. I’ve still yet to take it. If you’re really concerned about appearing too soft on science, you could always take an AP and an honors concurrently. Sophomore year I took AP Biology and Honors Chemistry, and next year I plan to take AP Environmental and Honors Experimental. Though it sounds like you’re limited on your AP science choices. What are you planning on majoring in?
No. Top schools recommend taking bio, chem, and physics., but there is no suggestion that they should all be AP. Columbia only specifies 3-4 years of laboratory science, but Harvard recommends “The study of science for four years: physics, chemistry, and biology, and preferably one of these at an advanced level.”
