I am thinking of taking AP Biology, but I am not planning on pursuing any science/bio related major in the future. AP Biology at my school is also extremely challenging, so it might hurt my GPA. I have two other APs, but my concern is that two APs are not enough (my school is an EXTREMELY competitive public school) since I am aiming to go to a top tier college. Is it worth it to take AP Bio, or should I play it safe and drop to an honors science class?
It all depends upon the types of colleges you are targeting, and what classes other students applying to those colleges will have taken.
Many kids with STEM interests still take AP Language or APUSH. No college is expecting one to specialize in HS.
Think about the other students that are aiming for top tier colleges…are they taking easier classes or challenging themselves?
But first the question is what year you? If a freshman then no, take Honors. If a senior and you have already taken Bio, Chem and Physics, then take an AP Science.
If you have not taken Bio, Chem and Physics make sure you take the one you are missing.
@crazywcorgis, my daughter is in exactly the same situation, her AP bio teacher is extremely difficult to deal with, she is willing to work hard but she says even that won’t get her close to an A in her class. very sad situation. What did you decide? what did you find on your research ?
I was struggling with it the whole time because I was not planning on majoring in Biology or anything deeply STEM related, yet I thought that all my peers would have more APs than I did if I didn’t take it. I ended up switching it to an easier course, but I’m not sure if that was the right choice… thoughts?
