Taking English 45A, 45B, and 45C at once?

I'm waiting to hear if I got into Cal as a Fall 2011 transfer from a CCC. I applied as an American Studies major, but now want to switch to English. I don't have any of the foundational courses completed. English majors: if I get in, would I be crazy to take English 45A, 45B, and 45C in my first semester at Cal?

I took A and C in my first semester and didn’t find it particularly burdensome.

Ugh. It’s definitely possible, but why subject yourself to that when it’s not absolutely necessary? I think you only need two to declare (don’t know if it’s different for junior transfer students), and you don’t need to take the 45 series before taking any upper division classes. I took 45C my first semester, 45B my third semester, and 45A my eighth (and final) semester. They’re all survey classes, so unless you love reading a select few major works spanning broad time periods, you won’t enjoy them as much as you would other courses with more specific topics.
