Taking first Finance class next year. What to expect?

I think people are overblowing the pre-reqs. The pre-reqs are your standard business pre-reqs. Taking them might give you more context to the bigger picture (like why certain decisions are made, business lingo, etc etc etc), but as long as you can do the math, that’s what’s most important. And even then, the math isn’t super difficult, just in-depth algebra.

That’s not to say some pre-reqs like Financial Accounting wouldn’t be useful, but at the same time I’m at a top business program and my Intro to Finance course has no accounting pre-req. Financial Accounting is a separate core course that can be taken before, after, or concurrently with Intro to Finance.

Google and read up a bit more in Intro to Finance type courses and see if you’re comfortable with the math and general concepts.

@briank82 I think some of us are just speaking from our own experiences. Different schools teach classes differently!

Indeed there appears to be no pre-reqs listed. So sign up and enjoy it! If pre-reqs were needed or suggested for this particular course, then they would be listed.

FWIW - I suggest embracing and mastering the time value of money (TVM) computations on your financial calculator. Back in my days (before you were born), they came up in 3 or 4 different courses. So if you master the concepts early, you’ll be rewarded in future classes.
