Hi everyone,
I don’t have much experience with CCs, am currently a CSU student. I am looking to transfer to a UC for next year, and in order to fulfil the requirements, I will need to take an additional class this winter. Unfortunately it is not offered in the winter. Can I just enroll into a CC just for the winter? Or do I need to be previously enrolled? The class I am looking to take is Calculus 3, any advice on how to enroll would be very much appreciated.
Unlike many universities, you do not need to be matriculated to enroll in a community college course. So, yes, you can enroll in a CC just for the purpose of taking a single course. Just make sure that this particular Calc course is going to be transferable to the institution where you hope to transfer.
I’m not sure if CC’s offer Calc 3 for winter session because it’s typically only 5 weeks. I’m taking Calc 3 right now, and I don’t know how anyone is going to teach or learn so much material in 5 weeks.
Depending on the school, you would need to show proof that you took Calc 1 and Calc 2 somewhere else before you could enroll. CCC’s are more strict with prerequisites than UCs from what I can tell.
UC-Berkeley does offer a Math 53 Multivariate Calc class online in the summers (8 week course). It’s Berkeley though, so expect the class to consume 20+ hours a week in the summers. not sure about who can take the class though.
