Taking Macroecon before Microecon

So, because of unfortunate schedule time conflicts, I think I'm gonna have to take Macroecon before Microecon. The catalog description says Macroecon has prerequisite which is micro, but I've heard that whichever comes first doesn't really matter. Is it doable to take macroecon first without any knowledge on microecon?

thanks in advance.

It might be school dependant, but in my macro class, not that much micro was required. You might want to brush up on some basic supply/demand, perfect competition, labor markets, and other topics that might appear in your macro class before hand. Email your professor and see what micro topics you will need to know. On the first day of class, my macro professor asked us to email her if we had not taken micro, and she emailed those people back a list of topics they needed to know along with the tutoring center where a student could be caught up on those subjects.

I took macro before micro and I was fine, however at my school it was not a prereq to take micro first. I would definitely check with the professor teaching and see if its okay. You definitely do not want to put yourself at a disadvantage by not having the prereq that most/all of the other students will have. For this reason it could potentially be worth it to delay this class and wait til you can take micro next semester.

I took both courses and some more advanced micro/macro courses. For the most part, Macro does not require Micro. Although, I highly recommend you to be adept at understanding graphs, and basic principles of supply and demand. Also, knowing terms like externalities, marginal, rational, and etc. Therefore, it’s not possible without ANY knowledge, but the stuff you need to catch-up on is minor and short.

But, if you work just a bit harder and preview some micro beforehand not taking the full course of Micro would not make a huge difference.

Of course, if you want a very high GPA or are nervous about econ then just wait.
