Taking more AS's than A2's?

Hi im an international studying British patterned system and I have seen many people who have applied and been accepted at top notch universities in US, have given more AS level exams(6 to 7) and then drop down to 3 or 4 when they give their A2's why is that so? Does US unis give more importance on AS level exams and only look at the subjects of concentration(which the student will pursue in Uni) in A2? Please shed some light on it.
Thanks.

anyone please?

I don’t think there’s a preference for AS compared to A2 because colleges understand that A2 is way more rigorous. But those people probably got in because by taking many AS subjects, they proved that they could handle a high work-load.

I know someone who did 4AS and 3A2 and he got into Columbia, so don’t stress about it :)
