Taking notes Cornell Style?

Should I start taking Cornell Notes style I’m college? Will it keep my notes organized? Would you recommend it?

I can’t say that I know anyone who actually takes their notes Cornell style. I don’t have a “style” for my notes, aside from the method that I’ve developed myself over time. The Cornell method was mention in my college orientation class, but I never really saw it as being too useful. That will vary from person to person though.

Everyone always talks about how great Cornell note taking is but I never see it in practice – at my high school, we were required to take notes that way (they were called “two column notes”) and people generally hated them because they saw the cue and summary column as extra work.

Everyone I know does one of two things – they do outlines:
Topic
A. Sub topic
I. Detail

Or they just print out the powerpoint and write notes next to or directly on the slide.

Just do whatever style works for you.

Personally, I hate Cornell notes and never use them. But if you’ve found them to be useful, go ahead.

I would say start off doing it and see if it works for you. You may find a version of it works the best.

I go to Cornell and have never heard of this! (I just looked it up.) It certainly has never been encouraged or even mentioned in any of my classes here. Of course there’s no way to know what works for you until you try it!
