How do you go about taking out private loans with other companies to supplement your college education? Tuition, room and board -- such and such? How do you initiate the process?

First off, I know all about Ogrish. Don't even try to trick me. It's a shock website designed for disgusting things such as beheading, etc., Don't think I'm such an Internet novice.

Second off, don't hijack my thread. I don't appreciate it. Go somewhere else to do your pathetic little ranting.

tlaktan, are you talking about loans your parents would take out (I've seen your other threads)? Or are you talking about loans in your own name , sans co-signors? If the former, I assume the Federal Plus loans are still the best source. I have also seen products of the big banks (like citibank). If you are speaking of the latter I wait anxiously to hear what kind of response you get as I have found zero info on how a student can take out non-federal or state loans without a credit history or a job, and without credit-worthy co-signors. Kids are constantly saying "my package included $30k a year in loans". From where? Who loans them this money? How does or can that happen? So, I hope they'll tell you and I can eavesdrop.

Must be the PLUS loan, which does include the parents, because federally subsidized loans under the student name are limited amounts. Maybe if the PLUS loan is denied, the student could do a stafford unsubsidized for a larger amount.

txrunner, that comes up with another $4k if the parents are denied the plus loan. But that's it for those programs, there is no more after that.

My guess is when a package with huge loans is discussed, it must involve a parent or other cosigner, unless the student has a credit history.
