driving to nyc and philly is bad not only beacuse you have to pay the gas bill which could be somewhere around $20 but also have to maintain a car which costs money, so in the end train is just more convient :)

my point exactly. the biggest conveniences of a car in college are being able to drive locally (like to the mall or something) and to drive home (instead of carpooling or train/bussing with all your stuff)

I wouldn't say it's bad to have a car. just to take one into a city when you have perfectly good public transportation seems like a bad idea. frosh at princeton U can't have cars on campus anyway, can they?

they can't nor can sophs i believe :)

bummer...come to cornell, guys, where everyone can have cars, but nobody can find places to park them :)

For that parent who was wondering about parking for his/her 2010er a while back, there is something like a 5 year waiting list for a parking permit for the lot at the train station in princeton junction.

u've got to be kidding me r u sure?

sophomores can have cars easily, its just $150 for a parking permit

The Alexander Road Lot has approximately a 4 year wait.

The alexander road lot is the lot you would use.

whats the rate for renting a room a decent distance from pton like? please incl gas/electricity charges in estimate! :)

no idea, but my hunch is that anything remotely close to campus will be exorbitantly expensive becuse it will also be close to the downtown and princeton real estate is through the roof these days.

I, however, have no actual experience with or knowledge of college student style rentals in princeton, so I can't give you any definitive answer on that. My hunch could be completely wrong.

I would guess the lowest rents would be in the john street area, which is a minority neighborhood and isn't that close to campus.

scandal-less: I found this statistic on USNews.com. Around 98% of princeton students live in on campus housing. That bolsters my theory that renting off-campus apartments is not a common thing at Princeton U.

thanks sparticus!

No problem. Anything else?
