Hi all. I just wanted to know wether or not one can take the SAT/ACT after one graduates from high school. In my situation, I am looking to transfer to a top school and right now my sat isnt so good (2110). I would also like to take a stab at the ACT. If i take these tests after graduation, will colleges accept them? or do they just want standardized scores that one has taken in high school?...thanks in advance

You can take them after high school.

thanks so much…really appreciate it

Why would you want to retake a 2110?

A lot of colleges will not accept the SAT taken after graduation. I believe MIT does not accept scores made after January of your freshman year in college. I am planning the same, and will be taking it this June (I am a senior).

I recommend that you take it this June. Registration for the June SAT ends something like May 3.

Thanks for pointing this out; I wasn’t aware.

There’s something suspicious about the June testing. It might be harder than average in terms of difficulty, crazybandit. I’d rather risk for the November one.

It certainly could be, as we have not yet seen the test. Don’t let this influence you.

I certainly think that it would be very fair if Collegeboard ceases with the variation of difficulty in the SAT. They should try to make every one of it as average as possible.

Why would you purposely wait until college to take the SAT, especially since (1) it will disrupt your college work, and (2) some colleges don’t accept SATs taken then? I think the whole point of going into college with the intent to transfer is to look forward with a clear purpose/mindset and not dwell on things that held you back in freshman admissions…

ESPECIALLY if you are transferring as a sophomore–that would mean you’d be applying just a few months after the November SAT…you’d be in a worse position than a junior waiting to take the SAT his or her senior year…

I partially planned on doing Sophomore transfer. I don’t mind Junior transfer at all though.

What makes you think that June tests are generally more difficult?

I took the November 09 test and December 09 one as well. I found the December one to be tougher than I thought it would be.

^There’s naturally going to be some variation in the difficulty and the curves of each date, but I seriously doubt Collegeboard intentionally creates certain tests to be harder than others
