If you've ever taken the SAT or SAT IIs as a standby...

Does the Collegeboard send extra tests to the testing center? I want to take the SAT IIs as a standby and I'm just scared that they won't have enough tests. Does the Collegeboard send only as many tests as the people that registered? Will I get in if all the people who signed up for the SAT II show up or will I only be allowed to test if someone doesn't show up?

Help!

I took the SAT II's as a location-changing test taker (I was registered at another test center, but showed up at my own school to take the test). Even though everyone who was registered for the SAT II showed up, there were still more than enough extra tests for all the location-changing and standby testtakers. I remember that before I took the test, I asked the same question and most of the time, test centers had extra tests.

ive never heard of a standby not being accomodated.

thanks you guys, i'm less worried now

dont worry.. they have all the materials, all the space. or at elast, where i took it, they did. and it was my first sat expereince... which was quite scary... but dont worry, theyll put you up for it!

Not to be too discouraging about standbys,
but want to provide an extra data point.
At a Testing Center once (Jan/03 testing) when kids were turned away
when they were told no standby was possible.

Hopefully that's an exception, & a rare occurrance.

It certainly can happen that a test site has no extra tests or space, but it's fairly likely you'll get in. Make sure you show up early...it helps to be the first in line for standby. Also, if you can, take it at your school. You might get a little preferential treatment (though you're not supposed to.)

You also might want to ask people in your area where they got in if they took the test standby and go to one of those sites...

I would go to a big site, big high school for example, where the odds of no shows are greater. I would also mirro that you should be the first to show up, and make sure you have done everything the College Board's website says so you don't waste time filling out forms and stuff once you get there.
