Talent In Music, how do i prove it.

Hi, as im applying to many uc's in california, my passion is music. I love to produce/record/rap/hip hop music and i was wondering how would i prove to UC schools like Ucsb and Uci that im passionate about this.

If i have a rap cd i made through sophomore/ junior year with a low budget recording studio and a 20 dollar microphone, can i send them this to the UC to show them proof. or could i link them videos of some of my rap projects on youtube. (sound quality is off cuse low budget studio :p)

any answers would be good thanks:)

tiny, you don’t indicate that you would be applying as a music major. If you are, then there are specific parameters at each of your intended programs as to music based admissions, and the guidelines for supplemental submissions can and do change drastically for a major versus a candidate entering in another field of study.

As a word of caution, this site’s TOS prohibits links to youtube, personal blogs and pages (among others). You can “backdoor” the policy by suggesting googling, or the standard “pm me for a link of my work”.

There’s a bit of UC music supp info within this thread. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/413657-music-tapes-uc-schools.html?highlight=UC+Irvine</a>.

The best advice is to go to each website, and look at the specific requirements. If anything is grey or nebulous, call or email an admissions counselor familiar with the requirements for music supp submissions. You may also want to talk to a music department head or two within each, as they may have school specific insights.

If you do intend to apply as a music major, I’d urge you to direct your questions within cc’s music major forum.

Take some time to read through this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/738525-how-strong-music-ec.html</a>. I’ve posted links in posts 79 & 154 that will give you a broad overview of music supps. A few of the linked threads deal with some non-standard rep and out of the box submissions.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

Again, if in doubt, contact the departments and speak to someone knowledgeable, not the clerk answering the phone.
