Talk to The Times: The Choice Blog

Jacques Steinberg, education reporter and blogger, is answering questions from readers, Nov. 2-6, 2009, in Talk to The Times. Questions may be e-mailed to askthetimes@nytimes.com.

'Mr. Steinberg initially gained an inside look at the college admissions process when he wrote a series of articles about the admissions process at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., which gave him unfettered access to the school's admissions process in 1999, when there were 10 applicants for each seat in the freshman class. He wrote a three-part, front-page series for The Times based on what he had observed and, later, a book, The Gatekeepers: Inside the Admissions Process of a Premier College, published by Viking Press in 2002.'

Born in Fall River, Mass., he earned his B.A. in history from Dartmouth College in 1988. Mr. Steinberg lives in New York with his wife and two children.
