TAMU or Vandy?

Hey everyone! I have a bit of a problem here!! I've narrowed my possible colleges down to TAMU or vanderbilt and I'm having a terrible time deciding.

TAMU wants me to go to Tuscany this summer for a leadership conference, is giving me a full ride, automatic admission to honors program, and $1000 to study abroad.

Vanderbilt has stronger english and history programs, I love the campus, and I have connections in Nashville for major internship possibilities. Vandy feels right, but I feel like TAMU is offering me an opportunity that I would be stupid to ignore!!!

PLEASE tell me what you think!!

Thanks a bunch!!

depends on location and size factors kinda. a and m's huge(45,000 students) and in a smaller town while vandy is mid sized and in a big city. i like both just about equally. good luck

I have a son graduating from Vanderbilt this year. My other son was accepted to TAMU. They are both great schools. One of Tamu goals is to work on improving their liberal arts rankings. Obviously attracting students such as yourself will help meet that goal. If you haven't already, call the proffessors at both schools and speak with them. They will be more than happy to answer any questions you have and it may help make up your mind. If you have any specific questions about Vandy I would be happy to foward them to my son.

Go with the school you love. A&M's a great school and that offer is awesome, but if it's not the school for you, no amount of money will change that.

I chose Louisiana Tech over A&M and Illinois Institute of Technology even though everyone knows that A&M has great engineering and was offered nearly a full ride to IIT. A lot of people couldn't figure out why I chose Tech over them, but I've never really wanted to go anywhere else. I feel at home at Tech...I don't at A&M or in Chicago. It was still really hard to turn down that much money from IIT, but it would have been stupid of me to go somewhere I didn't want to go just because I felt flattered.

If you really love Vanderbilt, you should go there.

I was also up between TAMU and Vandy at one point...and, well, I chose A&M. For me, it was just that TAMU had that atmosphere that no one else can offer. Good luck with your decisions, I know they're incredibly hard.
BTW: if you do choose A&M GOOOOOO to Italy! It was the most amazing experience for me! You get hooked into the honors community, know the Funkhousers and Luke/Jane, develop relationships with other fish, and figure out the MSC heirarchy and bureaucracy in time to know what you want to do in the fall. It really is neat to move in the first day and already know 30 people well. Definitely, definitely, go to Italy!

Oh, btw, if you're a history major (I am too), you should check out the Glasscock Center. It offers some cool opportunities.

Hey relientr- are you only invited to Italy if you're National Merit Scholar? Or are recipients of other A&M scholarships invited as well i.e. Lechner scholars?

Oh yeah...when in the summer do they go to Italy. My son is already going to Italy this summer (not with A&M), but I was just curious.

Unless they've changed it, last year it was you must have a four year scholarship (Like Lechner/McFa/PES) and be a finalist in Ntl Merit, Hispanic, or Achievement. Then you have to apply, and they pick about 30.

Not sure about this year, again, but last year it was July 15-Aug 2. For all of it except a couple days at the end, they will be staying at the Santa Chiara TAMU Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino if he wants to check it out.
