Trouble Making a Decision -- Vandy or Texas

(Just like everyone else on this board, apparently.)

So I was accepted to about 6 colleges, but I've narrowed it down to Vanderbilt and UTexas. I want to do either mechanical or biomedical engineering. UT is pretty close to free after scholarships, is about 3 hours from home, and I'm in the honors engineering. Vandy, I have to pay in full-- as far as I know right now--, is about 10 hours from home, and doesn't have honors engineering.

My parents and I agree that Vanderbilt people seem more my "type"; I'm a liberal moderate, but not quite as out there as some people in Austin. Both have really good party scenes, which is a definite plus. I haven't had a chance to visit Nashville yet, I plan on going next weekend. I do like Austin, and think I would really enjoy my time there if I end up at UT.

I'm leaning towards Vanderbilt at this point, for the prestige, small classes, and on-campus medical center if I choose to go the pre-med route.
However, I'd like to hear some objective opinions please :)

bump. please anyone?

No way you gotta go to UT. Why worry about money? UT is great and Austin isn’t THAT liberal. There are plenty of moderates there. Vandy is great, but you can’t pass on a full ride. Its not THAT much better than UT.
