Tansferred to UCI as an Econ Major...want to do Pre-Meds

I’ve been reading your posts on taking premed requirements and I’m in the same squeeze as well. I will be transferring to UCI in the fall and I hope I can get into ochem. The chemistry department website says that nonmajors are welcome to attend the first week of lecture in order to be added. It also says the restrictions should be lifted. However, I’m enrolling for ochem at the community college I’m at right now just in case. You can use community college coursework to fulfill premed requirements, since it’s not counting towards your major anyway. However, the only problem will be getting into biochem when the time comes…My friend suggesting minoring in a science like physical science or public health to get into the classes. But it seems like too much work on top of everything else. I think it’s unreasonable for them to bar our students from taking these classes.

<p>Minoring isn’t going to do anything. Declaring a double major in the physical sciences/bio that would do something. If you don’t get into biochemistry, there is always summer. But the only downside is that it is expensive… </p>

<p>Make sure you finish a whole year of bio lab too (easier to do if you did at a cc).</p>
