does it hurt your chances if you have to send in a tape rather than a live audition? I jusr called Ithaca and found out the only dats left are in cali which is the other side of the country for me.

I honestly dont know how to answer this...your lucky u just get to send in one tape..i have to send in 6, lol...im auditioning for 12 schools and six have to be recorded, cause the other six im auditioning for at the both NYC and Chicago unifieds...im going to try and do some more walk-ins though...
but honestly i dont know...i think the whole factor of you walking into the room with your presence in a live audition helps so much...
what i had told some of my recorded schools, was that i was going to send in a tape, and if they liked what they saw in the tape, and really wanted to see me live, i would put up my best effort to fly down there, but thats only in that case, i cant afford to fly everywhere.....for me, just to do unifieds next month and to go to NYC AND cHICAGO its about 5 connection flights...from my very small island barbados..lol...so i guess it really depends....just do your best on your recorded audition..but dont worry about it

I forget that not everyone can just drive to all their auditions. good luck at unifieds! i hope you like the cold because winter is finally here (i danced in the snow today:)

anyone have tips on making the tape?

Babygiraffeboots, have you confirmed that Ithaca will allow you to send a videotape? Is this the only school you are considering sending a tape to?

Hi,

My suggestion on tapes is don't do one. They are very ineffective. I have no ststistics, but I know relying on a taped for auditioning dimishes your chances of admission at any well-thought-of institution. If it is your only option, do your best to have good production values (multi-camera shoot, contrasting in the backround, good key, fill, and back light, etc) - it should be something you would enjoy - it should be a "PBS Special"!

thanks for the good luck babygiraffe!!!!....u too!!..im SOOO excited to see snow! this will be my first time seeing it :-) :-)

While mtdog's post makes sense and I agree in the general, don't let it scare you if you have to send a tape. Last year, after a situation arose that necessitated sending a taped audition to two schools, my daughter was admitted for MT to both schools!

I also personally know of a young woman who was unable, due to financial constraints, to travel to most of her college auditions and she is now a freshman MT major at a quite selective school. So please don't stress yourself out completely if you do have to send in a tape. Just be sure to use common sense when shooting the tape/DVD, as in, make sure you are against a plain and non distracting background, etc. You want the adjudicators' attention to be on YOU!!

I have to agree with mtdog on this. If there is any way to avoid a video audition, do it. Having said that, if there is absolutely no way you can audition in person, then make sure that you follow the instructions that each school gives for tape submission. If you don't follow them, to the letter, there's a good chance that they will not even consider the tape. Your best bet is to hire a professional to assist you in the making of the tape. Excellent quality is a must.
