TASP 2018

@lightning3201 me too!! which ones are you applying to?

Also, not sure if anyone knows but doesn’t being a minority, etc. help with this program? Like in terms of how it helps for colleges lol. Just curious

@MangoLover11223
In terms of TASP, they explicitly state that they aren’t going to accept/deny you based on race, religion, etc. So basically, they don’t give a crap

thank goodness, because I’m Asian as hell

@P1nkSky Yes, my paragraphs now have like 3 or 4 lines between them. Like this…

I submitted last night @ 11:52 pm. That was a close call! I had more to revise and edit, but it is over now. Good luck to all! When do we hear if we are selected as finalists? early March?

Yes, early March @itsjustmyfuture. Does anyone know approximately how many applications they receive? For example, how many high school juniors applied last year to TASP? What percentage of those are selected to interview?

What if we only put one space between paragraphs? That is what I did because that how they said should format our essays.

@oak2maple over one thousand for applicants. I think they accepted 64 (if I recall) for the program, however I do not know about the interview, although I’m sure it is still hard to even get to that stage!
@digitalreform That’s what I did, but when you look at the html version of your submission, they had another enter space between paragraphs so the spacing is even farther. So it’s not a problem, since the directions told us to put that enter space when writing our essays.

Hmm I’m kind of worried because I put down a long list of stuff for my favorites. Do you guys think this will matter? I’m worried they’ll just think I put down random stuff, but I really do like all those things…

@silverarrow15 I don’t think the list matters that much actually. I don’t see why they would accept or deny an applicant just because the stuff seems “random”

@cxnxicee Agh i hope you’re right. Haha there’s a high chance I’m overthinking things too much. This is the first summer program I’ve ever felt so excited for so I’m super nervous. (❁°͈▵°͈)

I wrote the second essay about how I hurt my parents. Did it have to be about a peer?

@palinoia im pretty sure someone already asked this but I’ll try to answer. A peer is usually someone who is the same age as you, but really it can be interpreted many ways so writing about a parent should not count against you.
Regardless, it’s over so don’t stress too much :))
Nothing we can do now

@MangoLover11223 so, true… haha. I need to stop stressing about this and do my HW, lol

Yep let’s go second semester juniors! Last stretch~ (already can’t wait for second semester senior year…)

@Sougiya hold up- that thing about admitting regardless of race/ethnicity/religion/etc. is the same thing they say for college admissions too. I thought that was something they were required to say lol (idk tho I’m super Asian too)

@SeattleDreamer my friend was a TASPer last year and apparently at her program, there were certainly a large population of minorities

@kungfukenny , where’d you’re friend end up for college? Is southeast Asian considered a minority? I’m preety sure if you’re not classified as a white your a minority.

@Acortez122 you have your facts backwards. Asians are a HUGE majority that’s why it’s super hard competitive. Unfortunately, because of that, there needs to be representation of other races and so they have to choose people that have a diverse background. Some colleges have whites in their minority—VERY few— but NO college lists white as a majority. In fact, it would be Asians (southeast asians included unfortunately) that are considered the majority, not a minority at all.
I know it’s weird but that’s how it works

Asians are the majority of the minority. sigh. A total Asian here.

Ok so I’m not sure if they’ll appreciate this much, but my essays were loosely related to their questions. Like, they addressed them, but also a bunch of other things they didn’t ask for. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s one of those things that either they get or they don’t.
