How long is the interview again? 3 hours? Gosh.....

Amen to the death of Catcher in the Rye. shudder.

My interview was a little over an hour. I'm aware of interviews that were 45 minutes, and one that was closer to 3 hours.
Before you get nervous, the average is about an hour, and that goes much faster than you think

If you want to read a good book, and one that's under-read in schools, pick up something by my favorite author (and I'm a TASPer, so you know this author is good): Kurt Vonnegut.
I recommend "Breakfast of Champions," "Slaughterhouse Five," and 'Cat's Cradle."
Each one has changed my outlook on life and death and has given me a real sense of inner-calm. (I'm actually serious.)

The books are not too long and always entertaining as well as philisophical.
But don't take my word for it!

PS: If you didn't get that last joke, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_Rainbow

Sorry, quick edit

*You don't have to take my word for it

Hey, I haven't seen it in ten years!

You should try Welcome to the Monkey House as well; it's a collection of Vonnegut short stories that are alternately funny and tragic, but always surreal.

Oh LeVar.

Reading Rainbow, Arthur, and Wishbone were the only TV shows I was allowed to watch growing up, and I'm so thankful for each one of them. Wishbone got me through The Red Badge of Courage and countless other school books. They need to release that stuff on DVD.

Ohh man I just finished White Noise and you were def. right; it took a while to get into it, but it is GOOD. Maybe I'll even write my essay on it.

I loved Reading Rainbow and especially Arthur (where we learn to work and play.... and get along with each other!), but I definitely missed out on Wishbone! Anybody feel like filling me in?

i love delillo- if you get the time, you might want to try underworld. it's probably a little denser, a little longer, than white noise, but it's fantastic.

i used to love wishbone, but really, it's all about the classic nick- salute your shorts, are you afraid of the dark, pete and pete, clarissa explains it all, hey dude, and all the cartoons, like rocko's modern life and ren and stimpy. today's children don't get enough perversion in their television.

Wishbone was the tale of a highly literate little Jack Russell terrier. Wishbone had an owner named Joe, who in middle school/high schoool, and often got into situations that had themes or plots vaguely similar to famous books. Wishbone the dog couldn't talk, but he did voiceovers. I remember the Pride and Prejudice one: Joe and his friends met someone who seemed really standoffish but was actually shy. About five minutes into the show, Wishbone in voiceover is all "That reminds me of another time when shyness could be mistaken for pride, and all the trouble it caused..." and then all of a sudden an entirely different cast of actors start acting out a VERY abridged version of Pride and Prejudice, with Wishbone the dog being Darcy. They'll probably show that for a bit, and then shift back to the modern story with Joe and whatnot. Something else will happen with Joe, and then Wishbone will be like "Sounds like Joe could learn something that Darcy learned!" and then we're back in P&P. It basically goes back and forth until both stories are over. It was a great way to teach kids the plots of the classics and how their themes relate to every day life.

Here's a list of all the books they've done: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wishbone_%28television_show%29

I think I could say that basically everything I know today came from the magic school bus, bill nye, and wishbone

I agree. I didn't learn anything new in science until eighth grade. Everything before then was from Bill Bye and the Magic School Bus.

Ms. Frizzle owns all. Don't deny it!

magic school bus! i loved the fantastic voyage episode where they go into the body and the ocean ones best.

Who else is applying to TASP, other than me and Saima?

Approximately 848 other people, lol.
Don't even worry about it, just do the best you can on your essays.

^ I meant on this forum -______-.

I want to at least get to know some of the potential TASPers.

I think I might, savoirfaire. I'm not sure yet.

Im applying to TASP just havent had that much time to post on this thread lately. I'll be on more often after next week.

I'm definitely applying savoirfaire! The plan is to spend all of Christmas break writing essays...you?

Yeah, that's my plan so far, too. =) Just way too much stuff going on right now. Which seminar is your first choice?
