Tasp

oh man, do not complain about your private chef, because our food was terrible ALL THE TIME. hahahaha.

Hah, it was the worst I could think of.... maybe getting trapped on the porch by a killer skunk tops that... maybe...

lol, yeah, our chef was something out of Tim Burton, and also a surprisingly nice guy. Great food, as Globber said.

Killer skunks were definitely a problem though.

Is it better to analyze a fictional book as opposed to a nonfictional book? I'm thinking of doing a nonfictional account of a cuase that is very important to me and prevalent throughout my app. The only thing I'm afraid of is that it might not reveal itself to actualy and substansial literary analysis as opposed to fictional masterpieces. Just wanted to hear the old TASPers opinion on this. Thanks.

"The answer to your question is: kind of" ...?

Ahaha, suspicions flared here. Must remember to bug you about that sometime. :D

Sorry to hear that the catering in St. Louis left much to be desired. Hey, incidentally, did you guys also get an incredibly obnoxious letter from Austin proclaiming their (mistaken) superiority solely due to the fact they had a chef? And since I've started asking already... what's this about a phone conversation with Austin? Anything interesting?

bravos89, I don't remember the exact prompt, but doesn't it say something about describing the importance of stylistic choices within the text you choose to analyse? If not, then I guess non-fiction would work; but having said that, I'd stick with fiction just to be safe. And I'm assuming that you'll be using the "issue" essay (and perhaps the careers one as well?) to highlight this topic that's of importance to you, so that should free up the "literary analysis" essay for something else

Oh, and remember that you don't have to write about a novel. I did mine on a poem by Seamus Heaney, because it seemed easier to be concise and focused when the material itself was more compact and condensed.

Heh, killer skunks. I was so excited and actually went about looking for them because I'd never seen skunks before. You just don't get those critters around here. (Un?)Fortunately the only sightings I got were of a black-and-white butt disappearing into the shrubbery, and some horrendously putrid roadkill on the way to seminar. :p

To all prospective Taspers:

I don't know how Jsn88 will feel about this, but I feel that since he has offered you guys so much insight and help, you owe him congratulations, he's been accepeted to Princeton.

So feel free to offer kind words, as this little genius just got into a college that is tied for FIRST in the US.

CONGRATS Jsn88!!! :-D

neways I posted the first congratz but it seems to have disappeared...

CONGRATZ again Jsn88, have a great time at Princeton

I don't OWE him any sort of congrats for the insight he gave on a site where you come on your own discretion...

BUT, Great JOB! Woot!

Good luck at P-ton

congratulations!

also, we called austin and they were very rude. they told us we were immature, refused to speak to us, and then told us they were going to the gym to become beautiful happy people...

...

we also left them a nice voicemessage from the resident gynecologist, doug.

Thanks for the congrats guys!

QuickLikeCat, I'm vacillating masively between Chemical Engineering, ORFE, Economics, Mathematics, or some combination of those along with finance. I'm not the most decisive on that topic.

Good luck to the Yale EA applicants! (I think this applies mainly to pianoking and blurblurblur). Tonight... tonight...

And urgh, what was with Austin? They sent us a burnt lamb doll. Hrmph...

So what's the deadline on the app?

From the Telluride Association website:

Applications due (if mailing, postmark by): January 23, 2006
Applications due (if completing on-line, submit by): January 26, 2006

hey-- i'm sure someone has already answered this, but oh well-- when would you receive applications from tasp? (assuming you scored well on the psat). also, by the psat you mean the junior year one, correct?

If this was already repeated, sorry to bore you :p...Did anyone from here attend TASP at Austin this summer? I have a really good friend who did, and it'd be interesting for me to know.

Btw, how much does TASP help on college apps?

unefleursauvage, I got my paper application today.

I'm Amanda, I went to UT Austin for TASP this summer. I have a feeling your friend's name begins with an E, and that she's incredibly sweet. Am I right?
